A few weeks ago, @Sawyer_w took me to see Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears at The Fillmore. I had only listened to a few tracks and had no idea what to expect. The crowd was considerably older, which is surprising since the band was signed at SXSW in 2009. The opening band, The Sheepdogs, put on a stellar performance. Their crazy guitarist is certainly meant to be rock royalty! With the crowd fully amped, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears came on stage and wasted no time getting down to business. Even though they are an eight person band, they were in total sync. The Honeybears’ synchronized dance steps and Black Joe Lewis’ teeth grinding guitar tricks made for a dynamic show full of energy. Their first album, “Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!” was produced by Spoon drummer, Jim Eno. Be sure to check them out if they come your way.
