Amadou & Mariam + Santigold? Oh happy day!
If you haven’t already discovered Amadou & Mariam, it’s time to get involved. (Here’s a great song to start with. ) For a bit of background, Amadou and Mariam are Malian musicians who met when they were adolescents at the Institute for the Young Blind in Mali. They began producing music in 1974 and married in 1980, but their breakout album (produced by Manu Chau) came in 2004 . Their music is a blend of African traditions with rock guitar and modern-sounding synths.
As for Santigold, this girl put on one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to a few years back at the Warfield. Glad to see she’s putting out some new tunes!
